It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. Proverbs 25:2

I was contemplating the subject, attitude, and trying to decide if it was truly worth taking the time to look at and discuss. Well after going to a midweek service with a guest speaker from Haiti speaking on the attitude of honoring those who are due honor, needless to say there was confirmation that the subject was worth discussing. I also recognized some areas that I need to, let’s say, tweak! That I will get into more on the next blog.

Our attitude is an important part of who we are. It speaks to the type of person we are, it reflects what is going on inside and it can sets a certain atmosphere around us. We have heard it said, “He has a negative attitude” and people don’t want to be in the presence of a negative person very long. We have seen one person’s attitude set the mood of a meeting, a work environment, and even family relationships.

Whether they are positive or negative, they can influence the people and circumstances around us. Many times, our attitude is shaped by our life experiences. You can tell those people who have seen hard times. They appear to be stuck in a certain mind-set and they go on for so long that they don’t know how to come out. defines attitude as: manner, disposition, feeling, position, etc., with regard to a person or thing: a tendency or orientation, especially of the mind: a negative attitude; group attitude; positive attitude. Attitude can be displayed in a position or posture of the body appropriate to or expressive of an action, emotion, feeling… such as a threatening attitude; a relaxed attitude.

So attitude is an expression of feelings, disposition, tendency or orientation of the mind is a type of action. It can be the manner one speaks, the posture of the body, an action that communicates a thought or belief. This can be done very subtle or very expressive and deliberate.

Maybe we can see how attitude can help or hurt in life, on our jobs, families and in our communities. Attitude has been attributed as being a determining factor on high a person can climb “the corporate ladder” or the positions a person may or may not obtain because of it. You may have heard the saying “attitude determines altitude,” the way you think and act will have a direct bearing on the positions you may attain.

Why the topic of attitude? It is one thing that can totally impact our lives, our happiness and even our eternity. I believe it is important to understand our attitude, how it was developed and how can it be changed for the better. With this food for thought let’s meditate on attitude and next time lets comment on how attitude affects people and how we can change our attitude.
